If You’ve Worked in Any of These Jobs, You’ll Love Being a Truck Driver

Tired of the same old thing every day at your job? You don’t have to feel stuck in a career that leaves you bored, unsatisfied, and wanting something more. Professional Truck Drivers have been deemed, essential workers. And in today’s uncertain landscape, it is important to have a fail-proof career. The benefits alone ensure you have a plan and being a truck driver is a rewarding, fun career.

If you have worked in any of these seven fields, you’ll love being a truck driver. Here is more on why choosing a truck driving career is a solid choice – not just for the money, but for the adventure too!

If you’re up for a challenge, are a hard worker, and want to see what America is like, not from what you see on television, this is the job for you.

Warehouse worker

Warehouse Worker

A warehouse worker performs important functions for the business they’re employed by. From overseeing stock and packing orders to shipment and organization – you have a lot to keep you busy.

Yet, warehouse conditions aren’t always ideal. You have a boss breathing down your neck and often warehouse climates leave a lot to be desired.

Cook

Cook / Fast Food

A cook is an important job, we agree. Yet, unless you’re a head chef or work at a restaurant where you make the decisions, it is often a thankless job. Not only is it easy to replace you but the work environment is many times stressful, hot, and with little pay.

The pandemic aided in the instability of the restaurant industry. Not only are many out of work, but many restaurants have closed and won’t be opening right away – if at all.

Construction worker

Construction Worker

Of course, construction is always needed, yet being a construction worker has its negatives. You’re often tethered to how good the weather is for the day. If it’s raining or snowing, you can’t work. In the summer it’s too hot and in the winter you freeze. Not to mention that construction can be dangerous, especially for roofers. If you stay in construction long enough, it takes a toll on your body. And it’s not as easy to do the things you did when you were younger.

Retail worker

Retail Worker

Retail workers are often essential but rarely thanked. While you are often indoors and out of the elements, you deal with angry customers, a boss who works right beside you, and all the usual rules. If you want to take a break, you have to ask or go at a designated time. It’s not as if you can simply go outside for fresh air or get away from it all.

Most retail workers make close to minimum wage. Yet, truck drivers typically start around $45K per year. Although the average on Indeed is closer to $67K.

Security guard

Security Guard

A security guard position does usually give you a little freedom. You typically work by yourself. But being a security guard has a few downsides too. It can be dangerous depending on what you’re guarding. And for many, it is boring. You’re usually taking the same route every hour or stuck in a guard station. Even if you get a fun assignment like a state park where you can see nature, you’re still exposed to the weather. And doing your route in a storm isn’t exactly fun.

Maintenance

Maintenance

People always need some kind of maintenance, we get that. Yet often this is a job that is difficult and underappreciated. Depending on where you work, you may be called out at all hours to fix something. Dealing with rude or thankless customers is the norm, and if you’re not a supervisor, there is always a boss telling you what to do and when to do it.

Delivery driver

Local and Class B CDL Delivery Drivers, Uber / Lyft Drivers

Delivery Drivers, Bus Drivers, and Taxi/Limo Drivers are upgrading their driving careers to get their Class A CDL in large numbers. Roadmaster has seen dramatic increases in the number of Forklift Operators, Tow Truck Drivers, and other heavy machinery operators making the change to professional truck driving. Uber and Lyft Drivers are also now taking their love of driving to the next level by attending Class A CDL Training at Roadmaster Drivers School.

Traveling the country and discovering new adventures is a lot of people’s dream retirement. For Class A CDL licensed Truck Drivers, driving across the country, seeing new places, and meeting new people are a routine part of their job. The great thing is that the pay and benefits are fantastic.

According to Indeed, an Uber drive in Florida makes around $22K per year. A Class A CDL holding professional driver can make almost triple that. Using Indeed again, the average base salary is over $66K per year.

What’s Great About Truck Driving?

The differences in truck driving and the fields we listed are vast. With a truck driving job, you aren’t stuck inside with a boss breathing down your neck. Of course, you have deadlines and there are rules you must abide by. Yet, you have more freedom, and you get to see the country. If that’s not enough, there are plenty of benefits such as:

  • Excellent pay
  • Job security
  • Medical and dental insurance
  • Some carriers allow pets
  • Life insurance
  • 401K

Imagine getting to see the country while you’re getting paid for it. The Rocky Mountains, sunsets in Key West, and beaches in California. Picture choosing what music to listen to, where you want to eat, and having the solitude to be yourself. Combine that all together with competitive pay, a plethora of benefits, and freedom – and you have the life of a trucker. Every day you’ll wake up to a new adventure, an unfamiliar sight you’ve probably never seen. And this is all right outside your window.
